Jackfish Crow

So, I was flipping through my watches on Deviant Art and came across some image that was done for the benefit of the guy who runs Suicide Girls, who is getting taken to court, presumably over the enormously unfair and misleading contracts all the girls sign. Mind you, I don't know the up and down and in and out details of it all. This is like something I heard that someone else heard that someone else's aunt heard. But it seems at least somewhat common knowledge that the ostensibly more fair and equitable female-friendly stance of the SG company is largely a sham.

Excerpts from my life:

"My roommate found half a lizard in the yard yesterday! It was all mumified."

"Half a lizard?"

"Yep! Just the head and the ribs."

"Where did the other half go?"

"Inside a cat!"

I had a huge review of Soon I Will Be Invincible done yesterday, but it didn't seem good enough to share, so I put it on LJ where even more people see it than here. Brilliant. Anyway.

Every time I read K.J. Bishop's The Etched City it seems as if I find something new. This time around, I'm beginning to see how she took fantasy elements and magic realism, and turned it into a plot that was something besides an epic quest. I wish I could articulate it more, because that's not what all fantasy does (just a vast majority of it), but even the fantasy that isn't an epic story is still heavily conflict and plot driven. Her novel is fascinating in that it is not driven by a plot, not conventionally, and is not driven by conflict, though conflict exists.
