Southern California is a hotbed for exciting and challenging new art emerging from some of the top art schools and university art departments in the country, many in the metro LA area. MFA students from California State University, Long Beach begin the 2007 academic year by presenting the Greater LA MFA (GLAMFA) exhibition—one of the largest student conceived and organized arts events in the CSULB Art Department and Southern California history. GLAMFA features the best graduate work from 13 schools and 55 artists and collaboratives throughout the greater Los Angeles area and beyond.
GLAMFA will occupy all five of the CSULB art department galleries and several alternate spaces throughout the department, It will feature over 100 works in a variety of mediums, from painting and photography to sculpture to new media, sound installation and performance. A screening in the University Theater on the night of the opening will present film and video, experimental to narrative.
CSULB students do not curate themselves into GLAMFA; however, in conjunction with the opening reception, CSULB MFA students will open their studios to the public
