Linkbait is defined as creating unique, interesting, and/or controversial content that other people will link to. The main purpose of linkbaiting is to generate incoming links to your website or blog.

The first thing you need to decide with linkbaiting is the type of linikbait you want to create and then stick with that. There are various ways to linkbait and so you must pick a premise. Do you want to be funny? Informative? Offensive? Make sure it stays consistent throughout. Don’t try to write a post that generates controversy and then change your mind halfway through and start gossiping. You will lose credibility very fast. Readers pickup on these things more than you would think.

Things you want to think about when linkbaiting: is this something that other people want to talk about? Will this generate controversy? Am I breaking a news story here? If you’re not providing riveting or informative material, why would anyone want to link to it?

There are two things that can be done to your page that will push it up higher in search results on Google and other search engines. This is called Search Engine Optimization. Not very many people know about these slight changes you can make to your page, but they are very important, and we know for a fact that they work.

Log in to your account and you will be on your Home page. Click on the Personal Information link in the left column and fill out the section for Tagline.

What you enter for your Tagline will depend on whether or not you will actually be displaying your Tagline on your page using the About Me module.

If you are using your Tagline primarily for search engine reasons, you should just list keywords about your page. The tags should be specific and you should post the most important words first. These tags act as a description for your page, so make them accurate and relevant. You should also capitalize the first letter of each word. This tagline appears as your page description when Google and other search engines pick up your page.

For those of you who do have a tagline displayed on your page in the About Me module, you should just enter whatever text you would like to display as your tagline, since this of course will be visible to the people who visit your page.

If the primary purpose of your Uber page is for blogging, this post is especially important for you. It’s essential to create a sort of rhythm with your blog posts and the content you’re posting on your page because readers like to follow a pattern. There are different approaches you should take depending on what type of blog you’re attempting to put out to the world.

You have to think about the psychology of a reader and people in general. People for the most part rely on consistency in their daily lives so it only makes sense that they would seek consistency in the sites they visit on the web. Your blog page is no different. Readers will come to expect certain things from your blog or page and if you don’t provide the results they’re looking for, you may lose them for good! The goal is to get people to return on a consistent basis and the best way to ensure this happens is by maintaining a rhythm on your end.

For those of you who want to run a professional blog, you should be writing 10 new posts a day. Yes, 10. 8 of these posts should be up before noon. This is because people are now spending their time at work reading blogs instead of actually doing their work (don’t worry I won’t tell your boss). Honestly though, people no longer go home at night and sit on the computer reading blogs. This activity goes on during the day. Hence the reason why you want the bulk of your content up before people hit their lunch break. And once again this is for those of you who want a professional blog. By professional I mean that you plan to generate revenue from your page. By posting numerous times a day, and at the same times every day, people will know when to come to your site to find what they’re looking for: new content. Once you start writing your posts at certain times throughout the day, stick with that. People like to show up at their usual time and expect the same result.

This is one of the simplest yet most effective ways to announce your page to a wide variety of people. Adding your Uber URL to your email signature line requires almost no effort on your part and serves as an advertisement every time you send out an email.

The best way to do this is by just adding a text link to your email signature. Make sure to include the http:// before your URL so that it comes through hyperlinked on the other end. Some people like to use images for their signature, but this can often become annoying on the receiving end when every email from you has an attachment in it. Of course this is something you can do if you like, but a text link works just as well.

Here's what it should look like in an email that has been sent. Make sure you check yours to see if it's hyperlinked:

Every time you send an email the person you’re writing will see your Uber URL. Eventually they’ll have to click on it! ;-)
