Stump the Shooter
I get a lot of e-mails from amateur and student photographers all over the world, generally looking for advice on becoming a working photographer. I love geeking out about photography, so I thought the subject would make a cool forum topic as well! This is a place for pros and non-pros to mingle and share some knowledge.

Great organized page and photos are awesome. I'd love to get out of bed in the morning and go to an assignment, especially getting to know and experience new things.

Thanks! You should issue assignments for yourself; it's a great way to force yourself to shoot new things!

Darren, thanks for taking the time to come around my page in here and check things out. I really appreciate it! I feel like I'm always learning when I come to your page(s)! This is a good thing! =)

The dates in here seem off somehow, as do the ones on your new frontpage. They're all from 2007? A glitch somehow...?

Hi Darren

I'm new to Uber from dA and just getting the hang of it. I just wanted to compliment you on your page. I think it's great that you take the time to talk to less experienced shooters and share the love!
You've got some really great pictures and an interesting blog. I look forward to reading and seeing more of your work.

Luminaria San Antonio
Tonight saw the occurrence of the first annual Luminaria San Antonio celebration, a city-wide festival of art and culture. Venues were scattered all over the city, and they hosted art showings, concerts, film screenings, and performances of all kinds.

The main draw was at the Alamo, where the San Antonio Symphony played two sets in front of the historic shrine, which was illuminated with a changing lighting display that was synchronized with the music.

I'm rather honored to have been hired by the city Convention and Visitors Bureau to photograph the inaugural celebration. The entire street -- all of the storefronts and trees -- in front of Alamo Plaza was illuminated with changing lighting displays, and music played all around. It was a pretty good night. San Antonio needs more of this kind of thing to promote the arts and culture in the main stream. There is a ton of history and culture in this town, but IMO more of it needs to be shoved in the faces of the population.

More images to come. I gotta get some sleep now.

Darren,
I don't think we met that night. My name is Myles and I am with Philips-Solid State Lighting (aka Color Kinetics). We are the manufacturers of the lighting. What made this so special is that all of the lighting is LED based. I would love permission to submit your pictures to our marketing group to be posted on our web site, www.colorkinetics.com. Feel free to drop me a line.

@Treamus: I agree. San Antonio is the seventh-largest city in the nation, but no-one knows it. 1.5M people here, but it feels like a small town. The art and culture present in SA could rival any city.

It was great meeting you when you were here; I wish we could have had that pint though. Next time!

As far as culture is concerned San Antonio is one of the finest American cities |'ve been to.
It needs to be promoted internationally more, most people over this side of the Atlantic would not know about it.
