My wife owns a clothing store in downtown Memphis called Mode du Jour. this has been a great opportunity for me to learn a field which I know nothing about- FASHION. She started a blog about 6 months ago to promote her store but also to educate people about simple fashion trends with each season. Great part is I get to take all the pictures for the new lines that come in her store and post them to the blog. Anyway, check it out if you're in to blogs, fashion, blogs about fashion, fashion with blogs in mind, or simply like clicking random links. Here's the link - Mode du Jour fashion blog.
Here's one of the Shots from the last clothing shoot we did. Nothing fancy but you get the idea.
I've decided that photo-opportunist is the way I'm going to describe my style. It seems that my best pictures are candids and I find that I carry my camera with me more and more as time goes on. I still love concept photography, when it's all planned out and an idea comes to fruition, but the art aspect of my work tends to come out better in the spur of the moment shots. Take my ghost trolley picture. This was shot during an event on trolley night in South Main St. in downtown Memphis. I had my camera on a tripod, ran out into the street in front of an oncoming trolley and opened my shutter for thirty seconds. I think my favorite part was that I was too lazy to put my glass of wine down, so my friend Jared and I are trying to grab my camera, rush out there, snap the shot before the trolley hit us, and rush off, drinking the whole time.
As someone who has used myspace for years to promote the bands I played in, I have seen how easy this social networking thing is to do. What I haven't seen is how effective mass social networking actually is for marketing yourself or you wares to the public. As a photographer, I see social networking as a way to gain feedback about my pictures.
