Chip Christy is a 22-year-old artist from the Midwest whose sound is a viciously smooth blend of Pop, Rock, and Hip-Hop. His combination of styles results in infectiously catchy hooks over powerful upbeat music. It is an innovative and epic sound. Still, it fits very gracefully on "Top 40" radio stations and appeals to the mainstream Pop audience.
Christy has spent the past two years building a strong following in Michigan while consistently touring throughout the state. In October of 2007, Trey Scroggin of "The Lowdown, Lansing's Entertainment Guide" said the following in regards to Christy's performance, "Chip Christy filled a difficult spot - last, after a dose of musical anesthesia. Hip-hop infected pop brought the crowd to its feet and tore the house down. Singing, dancing, yelling - it was going down."
Christy has also received significant airplay across the state. Most notably, his single entitled "Suburbia's Hip-Hop King" remained on The New 97.5's nightly countdown for over four weeks. The New 97.5 is a Top 40 station owned by Citadel Broadcasting. Christy was the first unsigned artist to ever make the station's countdown. The New 97.5's afternoon DJ, Dave Beagle, said the following about the single, "There is no doubt that this is good music, it could easily be played on a national level."
Chip Christy's latest ep, entitled "Empires Fall" was recorded in the summer/fall of 2007. To create the ep, Christy joined forces with Connor Smith. Smith is a 20-year-old college graduate with a B.A. in music from the University of Dayton. He is an accomplished classical pianist. And, he has a magnificent ear that is in large part due to his "perfect pitch", an ability that has provided him with a unique understanding of music theory. Needless to say, Smith's vast array of talent and knowledge has improved Chip Christy's sound immensely. Indeed, he has injected it with intelligence and force.
Christy and Smith are currently finishing writing the "Empires Fall" album and preparing for a summer tour of the Midwest.
