Assemblywoman Margaret Markey 30th Assembly District
Margaret Markey was born in Queens County on November 4, 1941. She lives in Maspeth with her husband Charles and is the mother of Charles, Margaret and John. Assemblymember Margaret Markey represents the 30th A.D. that encompasses portions of the Queens County communities of Maspeth, Woodside, Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, Sunnyside, Middle Village, and Astoria. She is a member of the Assembly Standing Committees on Consumer Affairs and Protection, Governmental Operations, Labor, Racing and Wagering, and Tourism, Arts and Sports Development.
In 1982, she was elected Democratic District Leader of the 30th A.D. and was a 1992 alternate delegate to the Democratic National Convention. She also held the position of vice-president of the Great Irish Hunger Committee and is the founder of the Daughters of Erin.
Marge was responsible for organizing community support, incorporating and renovating a historic neighborhood building and establishing a viable community center. This center, known as Maspeth Town Hall, provides programs for pre-schoolers through seniors throughout the greater Maspeth area and has over 700 families actively participating.
Marge's voluntary service also includes serving on Community Planning Boards 2 and 5. Her professional career includes both the public and private, sectors. She was an Account Executive for Projects in Knowledge, Inc., an educational marketing company for the medical profession. Most recently, she was the Director of marketing and Tourism and the Special Assistant for Veterans Affairs in the office of the Queens Borough President. In those roles she helped establish the Queens Tourism Council, co-chaired the 1995 I Love New York Fall Festival, helped to attract the International Dragon Boat Race for 2001, and co-chaired the committee which developed the Borough President's Queens Veterans Garden.
