Assemblyman William B. Magnarelli 120th Assembly District (Part of Onandaga County)
Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli represents the 120th Assembly District consisting of the Northside, Westside and Valley areas of the City of Syracuse, as well as the Town of Geddes. He was elected to an open Assembly seat in 1998 with Democratic, Independence and Veterans Party support.
Assemblyman Magnarelli was born on March 20, 1949 in Syracuse to Louis and Louise Magnarelli. He attended Our Lady of Pompei School and St. John the Baptist Academy before going on to Syracuse University, where he majored in history. He then went on to Syracuse University Law School, graduating with honors in 1973. Upon graduating, he entered the Army Reserves, serving for six years and rising to the rank of captain. In 1995, Magnarelli was elected to the Syracuse Common Council.
On the Common Council, Magnarelli accomplished a great deal for Syracuse families. He fought for more jobs, lower taxes, better transportation and safer streets. He was instrumental in renovating Hancock International Airport to help make Central New York more attractive to expanding businesses. He worked to establish a new city/county crime lab, creating new jobs and helping police investigate crime. In addition, Assemblyman Magnarelli fought to keep property taxes in check and preserved vital police, fire and sanitation services.
As Assemblyman Magnarelli embarks on his first legislative session in the State Assembly, he will work for the issues that are important to our families, including creating new good-paying jobs, raising educational standards in our schools, cutting taxes, fighting crime, and improving the quality of life for veterans and older New Yorkers.
Assemblyman Magnarelli's broad range of community involvement includes having served on the board of the Arthritis Foundation, as president of Our Lady of Pompei Church Parish Council, and as Majority Leader of the Syracuse Common Council.
Assemblyman Magnarelli and his wife, Karen, raised their children, Lisa, Bill Jr., and Ann, on Syracuse's Northside, where he continues working to make our community a better place to live.
