Bill Magee's election to the Assembly in 1990 marked the first time in over l00 years that a Democrat was elected from Madison County to the New York State Assembly.

Assemblyman Magee is currently Chairman of the Assembly Volunteer Fireman Subcommittee, Vice-Chair of the Legislative Commission on Rural Resources and a member of the Legislative commission on Dairy Industry Development. He also serves on the Assembly's Aging, Agriculture, Banking, Higher Education and Local Governments Committees.

Assemblyman Magee and his wife, Jeanette are life-long residents of Madison County. After graduation from high school, Assemblyman Magee worked his way through college and received a degree in agricultural economics from Cornell University in 1961. He became an auctioneer and small businessman in Madison County over 30 years ago.

In 1972 Mr. Magee was elected Nelson Town supervisor. Town supervisors also serve on the county's legislative body, the Madison County Board of Supervisors. Mr. Magee resigned as Supervisor upon election to the New York State Assembly.

At the time of his resignation, Mr. Magee was the longest termed member of the current Madison County Board of Supervisors. He served on numerous committees of the Board including: Public Safety, Criminal Justice, Intergovernmental Affairs and Health and Human Services. Under Mr. Magee's 15 year leadership of the Health and Human Services Committee, the county cut welfare fraud and worked to build a new nursing home for Madison County.

Mr. Magee was a founding member of the Cazenovia Volunteer Ambulance Corps, served as legislative representative on the Volunteer Fireman's Advisory Board and was a director of the Cazenovia Community Chest. He currently serves as a member of the SUNY Morrisville College Council, the Board of Directors of the Crouse Community Center and the Board of Directors of Hamilton Community Hospital. From 1985 to 1990, Mr. Magee was employed at the New York State Fair in Syracuse where he held numerous positions including Coordinator of Special Projects, Manager of Agriculture and Livestock and Equestrian Events Manager. As an auctioneer, Mr. Magee has devoted many volunteer hours raising money for community organizations including volunteer fire departments, American Cancer Society, Pop Warner Youth Football, Habitat for Humanity, Office of the Aging and Association for Retarded Citizens.
