Sandra Galef is a resident of Ossining and has been living in Westchester County, New York since 1944. Mrs. Galef was born in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, was graduated from Purdue University and received a Masters Degree in Education at the University of Virginia.

Prior to becoming a member of the Assembly, Mrs. Galef had been a County Legislator since 1980 and had served as Minority Leader of the Westchester County Board of Legislators. She Also served as president of the New York State Association of Counties and was chairperson of the Welfare and Medicaid Steering Committee. In addition, she was a member of two task forces established by Governor Cuomo.

As a member of the New York State Assembly, Mrs. Galef serves on the Aging Committee; the Consumer Affairs and Protection Committee; the Corporation, Authorities and Commissions Committee; the Election Law Committee; the Governmental Operations Committee; and the Health Committee. She was appointed to the Legislative Commission on Solid Waste, the Assembly Majority Task Force on Public Authority Oversight, and the Hudson River Valley Greenway Communities Council. Presently Mrs. Galef serves as a volunteer member on the board of Directors of Phelps Memorial Hospital Association. Past community experiences include serving as President of the BriarcliffOssining League of Women Voters and the Northern Westchester United Way, Trustee of the Ossining Public Library, and Visiting Nurse Service of Westchester Board of Directors. Mrs. Galef has been honored by many community organizations including the American Cancer Society, New York State Association and Visiting Nurse Service of Westchester Board of Directors. Mrs. Galef has been honored by many community organizations including the American Cancer Society, New York State Association of Counties, New York State Federation of Police, B'nai B'rith, and the United Way.

Mrs. Galef resides in Ossining and has two children, Graig and Gwen.
