106th Assembly District


Ronald Canestrari is serving his fourth term in the New York State Assembly representing the 106th Assembly District, which consists of parts of the cities of Albany and Troy, and the communities of Watervliet, Green Island, Cohoes, Rensselaer, North Greenbush and East Greenbush.

He is a member of the Assembly's Standing Committees on Ways and Means; Banks; Transportation; and Local Governments. In addition to these committee assignments, he is Chairman of the Standing Committee on Ethics and Guidance, as well as, the SubCommittee on Transportation Capital Improvements.

Canestrari, a native of Cohoes, attended the Cohoes public school system and graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in Albany. He is a graduate of Fordham College and Fordham University School of Law in New York City. Canestrari is an attorney and is a member of the New York State Bar Association and the Bar of the District of Columbia. In addition, Assemblyman Canestrari served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971 and was an attorney with the Federal Government in Washington, D.C.

Previous to his election to the Assembly seven years ago, Assemblyman Canestrari was Mayor of the City of Cohoes for 13 years.
