Assemblyman William Frank Boyland, Jr. 55th Assembly District
William Frank Boyland, Jr. was born in the Bedford Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn to William and Ruby Jean Boyland. He currently serves as the Male State Committee Member for the 55th Assembly District which encompasses Brownsville, East New York, Flatbush, Bedford Stuyvesant, Ocean Hill and Crown Heights sections of Central Brooklyn.
Raised in Bedford Stuyvesant, Mr. Boyland attended Bishop Loughlin High School in Brooklyn. He later went on to Virginia State University and worked for Governor Doug Wilder, the first African American to hold that stateâs office. While in college, Mr. Boyland Jr. also served as an intern in several other offices including the Office of Congressman Major Owens and Edolphus "Ed" Towns. As his political vision developed, William Boyland, Jr.âs commitment to the community continued to stand out amongst his peers.
Upon his return to New York City, Mr. Boyland Jr. began his career as a community advocate. A former member of Local 371, he worked diligently on behalf of other members and their rights. His commitment to community is also highlighted in his efforts on behalf of Wayside Baptist Church and the NAACP. Currently, he is employed at Brookdale University Hospital where as he describes, he fights to assure that the needs of his community do not go unnoticed.
In 1998, William F. Boyland was elected to the State Democratic Committee. As a Committee member, Mr. Boyland Jr. advocates the political views and needs of his community. His contributions to numerous campaigns, on the state, city or the federal levels, are a testament to the respect that others have gained for him and for this community.
