We are starting big. Dreaming of utopias while dabbling in synergetics and consulting our field notes from excursions into temporary autonomous zones. Mapping geographies of destratification from the perspective of the Panopticon, kaleidoscope and View-Master. Searching both high and low to compile a taxonomy of viruses, open sources and graffiti tags.
To find a place that even we, of multi-threaded roots, can call home. What becomes is a hall of mirrors reflecting the elements of culture from which we collage together our identities: amazing Technicolor dreamcoats, kimonos woven of interstitial silks, mil mascaras and scramble suits that let us talk in a thousand tongues. They can build you, but you can build yourself better.
Your avatar is a bricolage that cannot be collected, a ghost without a shell and like your brain, much more of a grass than a tree. Compile a virtual archeology of your experience and set it adrift. Start at year zero and make cut-ups of all the hours on either side until they become a hoard of stimuli and a swarm of new selves.
Save yourself. Uber
We want your art for Ten by Ten. There's only one way to be considered:
1) Join Uber and build your page. 2) Showcase your best work in your portfolio. 3) Add Ten by Ten as a friend.
Ten by Ten is a result of the shared desire of LA><ART director/curator Lauri Firstenberg and artists Glenn Kaino and Daniel Joseph Martinez to construct new channels of movement and counter-hegemonic venues of exposure for both emerging and established artists of all disciplines and mediums. The networked nature of the Uber community in which Ten by Ten is embedded amplifies the exploratory discussions already taking place at LA><ART and uncovers myriad entry points for neophytes and connoisseurs alike.
Ten by Ten is a monthly dialogue between 10 artists and 10 writers. Each artist participating in the portfolio project has designed an Uber page as a combination studio/gallery/personal profile. After visiting the artist's page each writer contributes a piece of critical commentary that describes the work, raises questions about its implications and sets it within a new -- sometimes highly subjective -- frame of reference.
Ten by Ten is where these strains of information intersect. Each artist and writer's Uber page is linked to the Ten by Ten space; it is a hub from which the Uber user can embark on any number of pathways. It's a place to experience art and writing, and also a forum that will foster further collaboration, camaraderie and discussion within Uber's diverse community of artists, musicians, makers and discerning media users. Future editions of the portfolio project will continue to feature new and emerging talent from within the community that is gathering at Uber, LA><ART and Ten by Ten.
