STATEMENT The visual language of my pictures is derived, to some degree, from the structure of poetry. In the same way that poetic language gains meaning through distillation, imagery also becomes more potent when extracted from its environment and context. It is in isolation that these images become part of the poem, placed in a new context and imbued with supplementary meaning. Using this inherent collective visual language, my recent work investigates the increasing isolation of the individual. The growth of our society toward a more culturally disconnected paradigm has led to a society bereft of the intimacy that was once a crucial part of interpersonal relationships between peers in a social group. These recent paintings explore this disconnection from both the community of humankind and from the natural world.
