Cathy Akers received her B.F.A. from Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She received her M.F.A. from CalArts’ Program in Photography and Media in 2006, working primarily in photography, video installation, and sculpture. Her work explores ideas of utopia, specifically as they relate to ideas about gender and nature. She has exhibited in Los Angeles at Post, Marvimon House, the Gatov Galleries at California State University in Long Beach, the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Park, the Armory Northwest, and Gallery 825.She has also shown internationally, including at the international M.F.A. exhibition, “Goods to Declare” in Tel Aviv, Israel, and at the Castlefield Gallery in Manchester and The Residence in London. She lives and works in Los Angeles.
